Description

Very few designs are a one-piece component. Assemblies allow users to review how the design will fit together and simulate how it’ll move if it’s a mechanism. This course focuses on the tools within Autodesk® Fusion 360™ CAD/CAM software that enable users to connect components into complete designs that maintain the special and functional relationships between components.

Through a series of easy to follow video tutorials and supplementary learning materials, this course will equip you with the necessary professional entry level competencies required for creating and controlling assemblies.

After completing this course, students will:

  • Manage the structure of the design using components.
  • Connect components together to replicate the real-world model.
  • Test mechanisms to see the effects of their actuation on the individual components.
  • Use advanced control of joints.
  • Apply connections between joints to model complex mechanisms.

Contents and Overview

This course consists of eight sections that include lectures and hands-on exercises using Fusion 360. Each lesson includes comprehensive lecture presentations and project exercises that include step-by-step video instruction, project resources and datasets, and a final course assessment.

At the beginning of the course, we’ll introduce you to the concept of assemblies and manipulate an assembly with degrees of freedom to see how different joint types can connect components in different ways. We’ll also learn how the components of an assembly are created, managed, and shared between designs.

Once you’ve been introduced to the function of assemblies and the various ways they are used, we how assemblies come together and are used in motion. The primary reason for using assembly joints is to replicate how components will be connected and move in the real world. When a model has its joints defined, any flexibility or motion can be used to validate or demonstrate the design.

Finally, we’ll move beyond the fundamentals of creating assemblies and develop knowledge of the relationships between components and the tools used for managing the assembly.

At the end of the course, you’ll take a course assessment that demonstrates your expertise and shows you where you might need more practice. The skills in this course will help you apply design and engineering concepts and practice real-world scenarios that you may encounter in the design process.

Who this course is for:
  • Intermediate to advanced users of Fusion 360.
  • Those interested in gaining necessary entry-level professional competencies required for creating and controlling assemblies.
