Reproduction is a fundamental aspect of life, and understanding its biological processes is essential for veterinarians, animal scientists, and researchers. This course, “Animal Reproduction: Anatomy, Physiology, and Biotechnology,” provides a deep dive into the reproductive systems of various species, covering both male and female anatomy, endocrinology, and reproductive physiology.
We begin with an overview of the female and male reproductive tracts, comparing structures across species. You’ll learn about the embryogenesis of the pituitary gland and sexual differentiation, which set the foundation for reproductive function. The course then explores hormonal regulation, focusing on key reproductive cycles such as estrous and menstrual cycles, follicular development, ovulation, spermatogenesis, and fertilization.
In later modules, we cover pregnancy, fetal development, and parturition, including maternal recognition of pregnancy and pregnancy loss. We also discuss reproductive behaviors, gamete transport, and embryo development.
A significant part of this course is dedicated to biotechnological advancements in reproduction, including artificial insemination, estrous synchronization, and assisted reproductive technologies. We also examine species-specific reproduction, focusing on humans, dogs, and cats. Finally, we explore pregnancy diagnosis techniques and their practical applications.
